Hi! I'm Shelli, a travel enthusiast, avid reader and prolific reviewer of everything from books to skincare. I was born and raised in Jamaica but moved to the U.S. at 16 years old to attend college. Two decades and one Ph.D. later, I'm still living in the U.S., in my adopted home of Salt Lake City, with my husband and two dogs.
On Shelli in Transit, I share my experiences traveling to other cities and countries around the world. I have been writing about my travels for years, but decided to start sharing my adventures with a wider audience to add more diversity to the travel and lifestyle blogging communities. Travel, like so many other things, is different when you are a woman and definitely different when you are Black, so I want to serve as a resource for others who are scared to travel to another country due to fears about their safety or concerns about how they may be treated. But as an island girl living in the U.S., I assure you the rest of the world is a piece of cake!
My other reason for creating Shelli in Transit is to review contemporary fiction by writers of color. I spent the last decade primarily reading academic books and missed out on some really fantastic works of fiction that were published during that time. In the past couple years, I have sought to correct this deficiency and, on this website, I share my thoughts on novels from both new and established writers.
When I am not traveling or reading, I focus on my other obsession, subscription boxes! I love, love, love subscription boxes and I’m willing to try (almost) any box at least once. Due to my love of skincare products, my favorite kind of subscription boxes are beauty boxes, but I also review other types of subscription boxes including book, food, pet, game and lifestyle and wellness boxes, so be sure to check out those reviews as well.
Shelli in Transit is a labor of love and I hope you enjoy it and recommend it to others. Thanks for reading and as we say in Jamaica, walk good!
