100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream (1 oz, $29) is an anti-aging eye cream that de-puffs, boosts circulation and brightens dark circles with caffeine from coffee and green tea. The anti-aging vitamins and rosehip promote a youthful eye area, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream is ideal for all skin types.

Before I started getting serious about skincare, I thought eye creams were a gimmick, a marketing ploy to get customers to buy smaller amounts of an existing moisturizer at a higher price per ounce (and there are some dermatologists who feel this way as well). Many dermatologists, however, argue that there are some important differences between eye creams and moisturizers. For example, they note that the skin around the eye is thinner, more prone to dryness and more easily shows age and fatigue that a specialized product is needed to address these concerns. Speaking to Noma Nazish of ForbesLife, dermatologist and head of Amarte Skin Care, Dr. Craig Kraffert adds “every time you move your eyes, whether you squint, smile or widen them in surprise, you’re using muscles around your eyes.” In other words, the area around your eyes move a lot more than the skin on other areas of your face, resulting in loss of collagen and elasticity in the eye area. Additional factors like smoking and sun exposure also contribute to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles in the eye area, further making the case for the need of a specialized product for the skin around your eyes.

In this article, dermatologist Patricia Farris M.D. says that “eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin around the eye, so they tend to be thicker. They contain more oil than a regular facial lotion, and they have a lot of active ingredients aimed at the problems we see around the eyes.” Dr. Rachel Nazarian notes that another difference between eye creams and face creams is that although both types of products contain the same active ingredients, eye creams are made with lower doses and aren’t as potent. Dr. Nazarian goes on to say that the reason for the use of less potent ingredients is because the thin skin around the eyes absorbs better than the thicker skin on the rest of the face and using more potent face creams around the eye area may cause irritation. And when should you start using an eye cream? Well, Dr. Amy Ross says “the best time to start using an eye cream is before you think you need one [because] it’s easier to prevent the signs of aging than correct them, so I recommend investing in an eye cream starting in your 20’s”. *gulp* As someone in their mid-30s, I immediately grew worried that I was too late to the eye cream movement, but better late than never, I guess.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream contains caffeine, a common ingredient in eye creams that is used to reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. However, this article by the Dermstore Blog argues that results from a caffeinate-infused eye treatment are short-lived and you have to use caffeinated eye creams every day to get the results you want. This article says that caffeine can also help circulation, which could reduce puffiness. 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream also contains green tea which is a powerful antioxidant that helps delay signs of sun damage, slack skin, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. According to the Dermstore Blog, green tea neutralizes free radicals that accelerate the skin’s aging process and, as a natural astringent, green tea alleviates under-eye puffiness by shrinking blood vessels in the delicate area around the eye. And finally, the Vitamin K in green tea helps brighten dark circles. In sum, 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream has many of the necessary ingredients for an excellent eye cream.

My Take

I received 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream in my July 2020 BeautyFIX subscription box and because I was already using an eye cream (review coming soon). I decided to pass this product along to a guest contributor and their review of the Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream are presented below.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream came in a white tube with a silver top that cannot stand upright. The tube has a narrow opening that dispenses the correct amount of product, so no there is no wastage. The product is a white cream that smells like a vanilla latte. At first, I applied a dime sized amount to the orbital eye area using my ring fingers every morning and night, but a dime-sized amount was too much, so I started applying a little more than a pea-sized amount to the area around the eyes. I used the Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream for 2 weeks, after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing the rest of my face.

I think that the Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream brightened the eye area a little and did a good job of moisturizing, but it didn’t reduce any of my fine lines. I don’t suffer from puffiness around the eyes, so I am unable to say whether it helps with puffiness. I don’t normally use eye cream, but I use Cetaphil to moisturize my face, including the eye area and I think Cetaphil moisturizes just as well, if not better, than the Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, although the Cetaphil doesn’t help with brightening around the eye area or de-puffing. I loved the smell of this eye cream and I liked that it helped brighten and moisturize the orbital eye area. I didn’t like that it didn’t help reduce fine lines, but it’s possible with continued use I could see better results.

Overall, I would recommend this product as long as you are just looking for an eye cream that will brighten and moisturize. If you are looking for a product that will reduce fine lines, it may be best to try something else.
