ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Facial Oil
ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Facial Oil (1 fl. oz., $48) is a plant-based facial oil used to maintain smooth and supple skin, with a healthy, naturally radiant glow while renewing tone and texture. The Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Facial Oil is for those concerned with sun damage, dryness and dehydration and is ideal for those with acne-prone, oily, dry, combination, normal, sensitive and mature skin. ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Facial Oil is part of a growing trend of face oils on the market. According to this very helpful article from the Today Show website, face oils are “specially tailored to work with your natural oils to help keep your skin balanced.” Although oils are now being used in a wide range of skincare products including face cleansers, serums, toners and moisturizers, the overall purpose of face oils is to serve as an extra level of protection for your skin. And, according to dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Lucas, because face oils are typically derived from various parts of the plant (roots, stem, flowers etc.), they can include a range of potent ingredients with endless potential benefits.
Face oils are very versatile and can be used in either the morning or evening to tackle problems such as dry skin, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. If you would like to incorporate face oils into your skincare routine, the general rule is to apply products from thinnest to thickest, this means that face oils should be applied after your serum to lock in the treatment effects of the serum but should be applied before a moisturizer or sunscreen, which tend to be heavier skincare products. However, this general rule has proved controversial with some sources arguing that because face oils act as a moisture barrier, meaning they lock in moisture (which is good), it should actually be used after your moisturizer because face oils block products from penetrating the skin. The exception is sunscreen, which should always be the last step of your daytime skincare routine.
One of the main ingredients in ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil is fractionated coconut oil, which is made by eliminating long-chain fatty acids found in regular coconut oil. By removing these long-chain fatty acids, fractionated coconut oil is able to remain in a liquid state helping it to penetrate the skin more readily. Due to its high percentage of lauric acid, which is believed to have antimicrobial properties, some research suggests that coconut oil may even be good for fighting bacteria, one of the main causes of acne. When used in face oils, coconut oil is primarily used to hydrate skin because it is a natural moisturizing agent. And, although regular coconut oil is very comedogenic, meaning it may clog your pores, fractionated coconut oil is less likely to clog pores because those pore-clogging long-chain fatty acids have been removed.

I received the ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil in my June box from BeautyFIX and was pretty excited to try it. The face oil comes in a clear glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the oil. The face oil is a fragrance-free, light pink watery liquid that does not shimmer either in the bottle or when applied to your face. I first used the face oil during my morning skincare routine, after I applied SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF with Ferulic Acid and before I applied moisturizer.
Unfortunately, not long after I began using the face oil, I began to notice little white heads on my face and so I switched to using the Shimmering Face Oil at night after my toner and before my night cream. After the switch, my face seemed to be doing alright but then I started getting even larger zits on my face and so I discontinued my use of ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil. I ended up passing along the face oil to a friend who suffers from dry skin and they loved it. They said that the face oil was lightweight and non-greasy, it absorbed quickly into the skin, it was very hydrating, and it completely eliminated dry spots on their face. In fact, they loved the ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil so much that they wished it came in a larger size.
Apart from breaking me out, I disliked the bottle that the face oil came in. It is a lightweight glass bottle that topples over very easily. Once, I barely bumped the bottle and it fell on its side and about a quarter of the face oil spilled onto the bathroom counter. If I had not had a bad reaction to the Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil, I would have been very upset that I lost so much of the face oil. I think facial oil’s container needs to be redesigned so that it comes in a sturdier glass bottle or another with a different dispenser that won’t allow the product to spill if toppled.
My verdict for the ClarityRx Glimmer of Hope Shimmering Face Oil is to avoid it if you have oily, acne-prone skin like me because even after going through the fractionated process, the coconut oil still clogged my pores, leading to whiteheads. But if you have dry to normal skin, I say go for it.
