First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration (8 oz., $42) is a moisturizer that provides instant relief and long-term hydration for dry, distressed skin, even eczema. The whipped texture is instantly absorbed with no greasy after-feel. Safe for sensitive skin, the cream can be used by all members of the family, even children and babies. Suitable for all skin types, especially dry, flaky skin, this moisturizing cream leaves skin feeling smooth, hydrated and comfortable after just a single use. Formulated with Colloidal Oatmeal, Shea Butter, Ceramide 3 and the FAB Antioxidant Booster, it provides immediate relief and visible improvement for parched skin and it is clinically proven to increase hydration by 169% immediately upon application. This clean formulation is allergy tested, safe for sensitive skin, soy-free, vegan and fragrance free.

One of the key ingredients of First Aid Beauty (FAB) Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration is colloidal oatmeal. Colloidal oatmeal comes from grinding oat or grain into a fine powder and is considered an emollient, meaning a substance that softens or soothes the skin. Colloidal oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties that inhibits the body’s inflammatory response. Also, colloidal oatmeal has antioxidant properties which means that it helps to fight free radicalsthat can cause an acceleration in aging as well as a loss of moisture and lack of skin elasticity. Colloidal oatmeal is also used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, xerosis (severely dry skin), mild burns and chickenpox. Moreover, allergic reactions to colloidal oatmeal are extremely rare. In fact, a 2012 study on the safety and efficacy of personal care products containing colloidal oatmeal found that of 2,291 adults, only 1% reported low-level irritation after wearing a colloidal oatmeal patch for 24 hours. But just in case you are a rare case of someone with an oat allergy, you definitely should not use colloidal oatmeal.

FAB Ultra Repair Cream also contains shea butter, which is taken from the nuts of the shea tree that are native to West Africa. Shea butter is a miracle ingredient for skincare products because it contains a high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids that are great for smoothing, soothing and moisturizing the skin. Similar to colloidal oatmeal, shea butter is safe for all skin types and according to this Healthline article, despite being a tree nut, shea butter is very low in proteins that can trigger allergies. Additionally, shea butter contains high levels of linoleic and oleic acid, which makes shea butter easily absorbed into the skin and will not make your skin oily. Another great attribute of shea butter is that its high and unique concentration of fatty acids help clear the skin of excess sebum (oil) without drying out the skin. Basically, the combination of colloidal oatmeal and shea butter in FAB Ultra Repair Cream means that this is a product that almost everyone will love, regardless of skin type.

My Take

I have been using FAB Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration for years now and to be honest, it really should have been my first skincare review. FAB Ultra Repair Cream comes in a white tube with a flip top and is a white fragrance-free cream. I use the Ultra Repair Cream at least twice a day (morning and nighttime) after cleansing, toning and applying serum and it is my go-to moisturizer during the dry winter months in Utah. To apply, I divide a dime-sized amount of the Ultra Repair Cream on my cheeks, forehead and chin and then massage it into my skin in upward strokes.

There are so many things I love about this moisturizer! First, it is very creamy and moisturizing without being sticky or too heavy (although I wouldn’t call it a lightweight cream, it definitely isn’t heavy). It is the only moisturizer I have used on my face that equals the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream that I use on the rest of my body during the winter months. And because you don’t need a lot of this cream to moisturize your skin, the 8 oz. tube lasts a very long time and it is very reasonably priced. But the hands down best part about FAB Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration is that it will not break you out, so those with acne, oily skin, allergies and/or sensitive skin will find solace in this moisturizer. In fact, when trying a new skincare product, I often use this moisturizer as a baseline because I know that if I break out, it isn’t my moisturizer or an interaction between the new product and my moisturizer that is causing my skin to break out.

The only critique I have of this fabulous product is that it does not contain sunscreen. First Aid Beauty does have tinted moisturizers with SPF 30 as part of the its Ultra Repair moisturizer line but the tinted moisturizer only comes in 10 shades, making it unlikely that the tinted moisturizer will work for everyone. So, if you want to use this great moisturizer, you will definitely have to buy a separate sunscreen.

I gladly join the chorus of adoring fans of FAB Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration and recommend it to everyone. If you want a good-all round moisturizer that is affordable and won’t break you out this is the one. And the best part is that because the Ultra Repair Cream comes in a no-frills bottle (and not some cutesy jar), you may actually be able to convince your hubby to use it as well!
