Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream (50ml, $48) is a night recovery cream with antioxidant Super Lotus that helps strengthen the skin barrier while fighting dullness and dehydration. This detoxifying moisturizer works while you sleep for smooth, renewed, radiant skin. It’s powered by multi-action Super Lotus, extracted from the entire living lotus plant to boost radiance and hydration while protecting from free radical damage. Peach leaf extract helps skin recover from stress.

One question you may be asking yourself is if you need separate moisturizers for day and night. The answer most beauty articles and skincare experts will say is it depends on your budget and skincare needs, but I’ll just go ahead and say YES! You do need two separate moisturizers and I’ll give you a few reasons why. The first reason has to do with consistency. Daytime moisturizers tend to have a lighter consistency so that they can go under makeup without making your face oily or look greasy. In contrast, night creams tend to have a heavier consistency because they use more emollients to soothe and hydrate the skin. The second reason to use different moisturizers is that they tend to have different active ingredients. Daytime moisturizers tend to have sunscreen to help protect from dangerous UV rays and some also do double duty as a makeup primer and oil mattifier, none of which you really need at night when you are ready to go to bed. In contrast, nighttime moisturizers tend to skip the sunscreen and have ingredients such as retinoid or vitamin A cream, which dermatologist Dr. Robyn Gmyrek in her article with totalbeauty says are rendered inactive by sunlight. This is why many anti-aging moisturizers are intended for nighttime use only. The third reason you may want a separate night cream is if you have dry skin. Despite what the beauty industry says, your skin doesn’t “absorb” ingredients any better in the night than they do during the day because your skin is constantly regenerating but if you have dry skin and your lighter daytime cream doesn’t seem to provide enough moisture, a different nighttime cream would help moisturize your dry skin.

According to this article, night creams fall into two broad categories: anti-aging and deep moisture. Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream falls in the former category. The Fresh Lotus Face Cream uses two active ingredients to have anti-aging properties. The first is Super Lotus, which Fresh claims captures “multi-benefit properties of the entire lotus plant in one power ingredient that helps to hydrate, boost radiance, and deliver antioxidant protection for a youthful look”. The lotus plant does have a number of health benefits and has been used in East and Southeast Asian traditional medicine and cuisine for centuries. However, its use in commercial skincare products (at least in the US) is relatively new. In fact, according to this article in Marie Claire magazine, it wasn’t until the lotus flower was taken into the Fresh Research Lab that clinical tests found that the lotus was rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, making the lotus flower a powerful anti-aging ingredient. Fresh Lotus Night Cream also includes peach leaf extract, which according to this article, contains nutrients that “contribute(s) to the skin’s capacity to prepare skin cells to protect against future stressors”. In other words, peach leaf extract helps the skin look refreshed and de-stressed. With these two ingredients, the Fresh Lotus Face Cream is able to provide anti-aging benefits without the use of retinol and retinoids.

My Take

I purchased Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream because I wanted to try a night cream that was highly rated and wasn’t too expensive. The night cream comes in a blue jar and the cream is white with a thick texture. Fresh Lotus Face Cream is very heavily fragranced and smells like the lotus flower. The night cream was the last step in my nighttime skincare routine and I applied it after cleansing, toning and using my SkinCeuticals Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier. I also waited for 1 minute after applying the Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier before applying the Fresh Lotus Face Cream to make sure each product was fully absorbed into the skin. I put four dabs (both cheeks, chin and forehead) of the night cream to my face and then massage it in with upward strokes and then any residue left on my hands I use on my neck.

I really liked how moisturizing this cream is, when I wake up in the morning my skin looks hydrated and refreshed which is amazing considering I live in Utah, which has a very dry desert climate, and I don’t sleep with a humidifier. I also liked that the Fresh Lotus Face Cream did not cause pimples, which is another small miracle since many night creams, especially the really heavy fragranced ones tend to clog my pores, leading to breakouts. And finally, I love how long a jar lasts, I have been using it every night for over 3 months and I have been very generous with how much I apply, so I am sure that if I used less of it each night, it would last much longer than 3 months.

I only have a couple dislikes of the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream. The first is the smell, with the lotus flower smell you either like it or you don’t and I am not an expert on flowers, so I don’t really know which other flower I can compare the smell to, but it is a sweet scent. To be fair, I don’t mind the smell per se, I just dislike how strong it is. The other dislike is that because of its heavy texture, it does feel sticky. In fact, on the nights I am a bit too generous with my night cream application, my pillowcase will stick to my face….ea.

I recommend Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream, I don’t have deep wrinkles yet (knock on wood) but in combination with my Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier, I think it has definitely help reduce the frown lines on my forehead (and yes, I frown a lot). It is also amazingly moisturizing, and it has a great price. However, I do think you should at least try to get a hold of a sample first, to see if you like the fragrance.
