I received a super deluxe sized bottle of MZ Skin Retinol Skin Booster in my June box from Mintd. The Skin Booster is an almost fragrance-free yellow liquid serum that is dispensed with a small pipette, or dropper, from a tiny brown bottle. Due to its size, I briefly considered giving the bottle away because I thought it would have too few uses for me to write a review, but I am so happy that I didn’t. One reason I decided to try the Retinol Skin Booster myself is because I was prescribed Accutane a couple years ago, so I know the miraculous benefits of Vitamin A, and MZ Skin’s Retinol Skin Booster is 2% retinol, which is the highest concentration of retinol you can receive without a prescription. Another reason I decided to keep the Retinol Skin Booster is because it is an oil formulation (with very few other ingredients) and not a cream, so I knew that it was more concentrated and therefore, would be more effective.
After applying toner, I applied 1 pipette to my dry face each night before bed. Although I usually apply a night oil or nighttime moisturizer before bed, for the two weeks I tested the Retinol Skin Booster, I did not apply anything else to my face after the retinol. (As an aside, if you do use another nighttime product, make sure you apply the retinol first and that it is completely absorbed into the skin before applying any other product).
If this is your first time using a retinol or if you have sensitive skin, you may want to take things a bit slower than I did and only use the Retinol Skin Booster twice a week at first, in order to decrease side effects like dryness or irritation. But compared to other retinol products on the market, I think you are a lot less likely to experience side effects with the Retinol Skin Booster because it is formulated as a lightweight oil to help reduce dryness and its encapsulated delivery system helps to decrease irritation.
After using the Retinol Skin Booster for a couple nights, I noticed a few white heads began appearing on my face but because of my experience with Accutane, I knew this was a sign that the retinol was working to unclog my pores. So, I stuck with it and about 3-4 nights after I first started using the Retinol Skin Booster, my face completely cleared up and I began noticing that my face was a lot less oily during the day. And, after one week, my complexion was more even and acne scars I got after finishing Accutane years ago began to disappear as well.
The only negative thing I have to say about MZ Skin’s Retinol Skin Booster is that if I sweat through the night, it gets into my eyes and it burns so much that one night I had to go to the bathroom and used a wet washcloth to wipe around my eyes to make sure no more of the oil got into my face. It only happened a couple nights, but it was enough to be memorable and annoying.
Overall, I love this product and I highly, highly recommend it. If it wasn’t so expensive, I would definitely purchase a full-sized bottle.
