NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy is ideal for all hair types.

Scalp care is an overlooked part of haircare, but a healthy scalp is essential to achieving strong, healthy hair. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Guy Parsons, a certified trichologist (someone who focuses on treating hair and scalp conditions) explains the relationship between a healthy scalp and healthy hair:

Each hair grows from, and through, an individual follicle which surfaces on your scalp.

Sebum (a.k.a. oil) is also produced by each individual follicle via the sebaceous gland…

[F]ollicles that are full of sebum or blocked by dead skin, dandruff or infection will have

an impact on the quality of hair growth. In fact, permanently blocked or obstructed

follicles may eventually cease to produce hair at all. The scalp is made up of cells which

divide and continually work their way to the surface and then shed – as such, it is

essential that dead skin is removed by brushing or washing, but also by weekly

In order to maintain a healthy scalp and hair, you need to establish a routine. According to this article, a healthy scalp care routine involves regular cleansing to remove bacteria, sweat and excess oil and depending on your skin type (dry, oil, normal, combination) and your environment, you may also need to take steps to prevent over-drying your scalp and boost skin cell turnover.

The first thing you need to determine is whether you have an unhealthy scalp. This article, written by Alyssa Montemurro, explains a few of the signs of an unhealthy scalp, which includes hair that is falling out; a dry, itchy and tight scalp; a change in hair texture and; flakiness. She continues by saying that another sign of an unhealthy scalp is if you have to wash your hair every day to avoid limp, greasy hair, which may be a sign that you have overactive sebaceous glands. Some of the things that cause an unhealthy scalp are products like dry shampoo, heavy oils and hair spray. If these products are not removed from the scalp, they can cause build up and clog hair follicles leading to dryness, breakage and in extreme cases, hair loss. On the other hand, washing your hair daily can strip the hair of its natural oils and cause dryness, flaking and irritation. Basically, you need to find the right balance and see what works best for your hair based on your skin type and hair texture. But, according to this article, you should wash your hair no more than 2-3 times per week in the summer and 1-2 times a week in winter to prevent bacteria and fungus from spreading all over the scalp. Parsons recommends exfoliating the scalp once or twice a week and advises using a product that consists of finely ground textures (but not microbeads!).

NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy solves many of the signs of unhealthy hair by removing the buildup on the scalp. It contains bamboo stem powder that helps exfoliate dead skin cells. Bay laurel leaf extract helps reduce scalp irritation, dryness and flaking due to dandruff and dry scalp skin. It also contains lavender stem extract that calms the scalps and reduces itching. Finally, pea sprout extract stimulates the scalp and. And according to this article, essential oils help your blood circulate better which is good for your scalp because blood circulation delivers oxygen and nutritional value to your scalp. Additionally, your hair follicles depend on blood circulation to grow. NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy’s blend of essential oils in combination with the motion of massaging the product into the scalp are very beneficial to the maintenance of a healthy scalp and hair.

My Take

I received the NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy in my July 2020 TestTube subscription tube. Because I already has a ton of haircare products from my Cocotique subscription box, I sent NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy to a guest contributor with 2C hair to review (you can check here to determine your hair type). Their review is presented below.

NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy is packaged in a green tube with a clear flip top lid, that stands on its own and doesn’t tip over easily. It is also easy to dispense the amount of product needed. ReNeu Scalp Therapy is a white cream with little exfoliating beads and smells like vanilla and peppermint. I used Scalp Theory couple times a week. First, I lathered shampoo into wet hair, and then applied the Scalp Therapy and massaged for 2 minutes. I rinsed afterwards and followed with a conditioner.

I felt that NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy did a good job of removing build up and residue on my scalp without over drying. I’m unable to say how well reNeu Scalp Therapy helps with dandruff and itchy scalp issues because I don’t have problems with those. I have never used another hair mask, but I have used clarifying shampoos, and I feel like they dry out my scalp and hair. In contrast, NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy was gentler and more nourishing. Another thing I loved was the vanilla and peppermint smell! I also loved that it made my scalp feel cool and tingly for afterwards. In fact, I liked this product so that much there wasn't anything I didn't like, even after weeks of use.

I think NEUMA reNeu Scalp Therapy is a great product and I would recommend it to those who want to exfoliate their scalp and remove buildup and residue without drying out their scalp/hair. Plus…that smell…
