skin ICELAND Oxygen Infusion Night Cream with Glacier Flower Extract

Skyn ICELAND Oxygen Infusion Night Cream with Glacial Flower Extract ($68, 1.98 oz) is an anti-aging night-time moisturizer that maximizes the skin's natural ability to repair itself overnight. The Oxygen Infusion Night Cream contains micro encapsulated oxygen that helps deliver energy to your skin cells and improve skin’s own night-time renewal process. The Oxygen Infusion Night Cream is used to treat dryness, dullness and fine lines and wrinkles and is ideal for use on normal, dry, oil, combination and mature skin.

Skyn ICELAND’s Oxygen Infusion Night Cream is one of the latest iterations of oxygen themed skincare products that became popular in the 2010s, but have proven controversial in the skincare industry. The main bone of contention is the use of the hydrogen peroxide – a powerful oxidizing agent that generates oxygen as it is applied to the skin – in oxygenated skincare products. Hydrogen peroxide in topical products is contentious because it may cause the release of free radicals (unstable molecules that can damage skin cells and speed up aging) and there is research showing that hydrogen peroxide does not aid in the reproduction of healthy skin cells.

Instead, one source claims that it is better to infuse or treat ingredients with oxygen before adding them into skincare products. Additionally, skincare specialists recommend the use of other elements such as peptides that produce better results than products with hydrogen peroxide. Skyn ICELAND Oxygen Infusion Night Cream checks both of these boxes. First, it does not contain hydrogen peroxide but instead has micro encapsulated oxygen (although it must be noted that the skin cannot absorb oxygen, so it isn’t clear how this oxygen is being delivered to the skin). Second, it uses rice peptides to help combat enzymes that break down the skin’s collagen and glacial flower extract to stimulate cell rejuvenation and improve the skin’s elasticity.

Ingredients

  • Yeast extract revitalizes and helps calm inflamed skin.

  • White willow bark, a naturally occurring form of salicylic acid, soothes irritation and helps prevent breakouts and congestion in the skin.

My Take

I received a deluxe sample of the Oxygen Infusion Night Cream in my June box from BeautyFIX. The cream came in a small, round, clear glass jar. The night cream is a white, fragrance-free cream that goes on the skin clear. Although some reviewers and skyn ICELAND warn that there may be a warming sensation after applying Oxygen Infusion Night Cream, that has not been my experience. I applied the Oxygen Infusion Night Cream on the nights I did not wear my MZ Skin Retinol Skin Booster because I felt that my face was becoming too dry. I apply the Oxygen Infusion Night Cream before bed as the last step of my night-time skincare routine, after my cleanser, toner and face oil. I do not follow skyn ICELAND’s recommended application method (see above), but instead, I dab a little of the cream on my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose and then massage it into my skin.

There are a few things I liked about the Oxygen Infusion Night Cream. For instance, I liked that my face did not feel greasy after applying the cream, my face felt a little sticky after application, but it did not feel heavy. Also, I like that it doesn’t cause break outs, which is a constant worry whenever I try a new skincare product, especially moisturizers.

My one dislike is that I don’t think the benefits of the Oxygen Infusion Night Cream outweigh the cost. I have used other moisturizers that are half the cost that perform the same functions as this cream. Basically, if I pay over $60 for a night cream, I expect it to do more than just moisturize.

My verdict on skyn ICELAND’s Oxygen Infusion Night Cream is that it is a solid mid-weight (not light but not heavy) moisturizer. Although I am not convinced there is any benefit to the micro encapsulated oxygen in this cream, I liked that after using this product, my face felt and looked moisturized and no break outs! Skyn ICELAND’s Oxygen Infusion Night Cream is a solid choice for night creams but I think you can find less expensive products that moisturize just as well as this night cream.
