Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C and Turmeric Face Oil Review
Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil (0.5 fl. oz, $40) is a face oil that brightens and hydrates skin for a natural-looking glow. Infused with advanced vitamin C and golden turmeric for instant vibrance and antioxidant defense, C.E.O. Glow delivers cold-pressed, nutrient-rich extracts into your skin, leaving your complexion looking brighter and nurtured.
Sunday Riley lists a lot of key ingredients in C.E.O. Glow Oil, but I was intrigued by the presence of two of my favorite cooking spices, ginger root extract (Zingiber Officinale) and turmeric root extract (Curcuma Longa). Ginger originated in Southeast Asia and like turmeric, belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, a species of aromatic flowering plants often used as spices or flavoring agents, due to its aromatic odors, pungent and spicy taste. Ginger contains gingerol, the main bioactive compound in ginger, which contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These properties mean that ginger may reduce oxidative stress, one of the contributing factors to aging. Skincare website Byrdie lists additional benefits of ginger for the skin such as fading scars, rejuvenating skin, evening skin tone, promoting hair growth, combating dandruff and reducing cellulite. And when combined with Bisabolol, one of the active parts of chamomile, ginger soothes the skin and reduces redness.
Turmeric is another spice from southern Asia that has been used in India for thousands of years for cooking and as a medicinal herb. Turmeric contains curcumin, another powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. These properties help turmeric provide glow and luster to the skin and also revive skin by bringing out its natural glow. Turmeric helps heal wounds and diminish the appearance of acne scarring by decreasing inflammation. Additionally, turmeric has been shown to positively affect collagen, the main protein in skin, by increasing skin's hydration. One disadvantage of turmeric, however, is that it can temporarily stain the skin and leave a yellow residue, so it is important to test turmeric on your forearm before using. And if you are allergic to turmeric, direct skin contact may result in irritation, redness and swelling.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C and Turmeric Face Oil comes in a clear glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the product. The face oil has a clear yellowish-orange color with a strong scent of turmeric. I used 3 drops of the C.E.O. Glow oil in the mornings after cleansing and applying an essence but before applying a sunscreen. The oil absorbed quickly into the skin but left it feeling a bit on the greasy side. I used the face oil once a day and the 0.5 oz bottle lasted about 2 months.
I loved a few things about the C.E.O. Glow oil. First, I loved that the oil helped with uneven skin tone. I suffer from the occasional breakout, which inevitably results in uneven skin tone and I definitely noticed a difference when I used this oil. Another thing I loved was that the Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow did not break me out, which is a big deal for someone with acne-prone skin. I have used face oils that caused my acne to flare up, and because I have never used a skincare product with turmeric before, I didn’t know what to expect but my fears were unfounded!
I didn’t like a couple things about the C.E.O. Glow oil. For example, I did not like its smell, which is quite strong. Fortunately, the smell does not last but it is strong when you open the bottle and when you first apply the oil to your face. Another thing I didn’t like was that I felt that it left my face feeling greasy, which is not what I expected when I read that this product increased the skin’s radiance. In fact, I often had to use oil blotting sheets within a few hours of applying this face oil in order to rid my face of the shine.
I won't be repurchasing the Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow oil because I don’t think it's a good fit for someone with oily skin because what passes for radiance on those with dry to normal skin, just comes off as greasy and shiny on my skin. But I would recommend this face oil for those who with dry or mature skin, who would like to increase their skin’s radiance. The C.E.O. Glow oil is on the pricier end of the spectrum. but it does last a long time, even when you use it every day. And, although the Glow oil does a great job of improving uneven skin tone, I think there are other face oils that can do the same thing without the unpleasant smell and shiny t-zone.
