Mid-Day Shine Control includes an SPF of 24 and uses organic ingredients. Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control is ideal for those with oily or combination skin.
For those of us with oily skin, it is a constant struggle not to have your face look like an oil slick at the end of the day. Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands in the skin that make too much sebum. Sebum is an oily waxy substance that coats, moisturizes and protects your skin and it is also the main ingredient in your body’s natural oils. But what we call “oil” in our skin is made up of more than just sebum, it also contains a mixture of sweat, dead skin cells, and other tiny particles of whatever else is in the dust floating around you.
There are many things that may affect your body’s production of sebum, for example, hormones. Researchers have found that when progesterone – a female-specific sex hormone – levels spik, sebum production also goes up. Age also affects sebum production with puberty being the time when sebum production peaks, however, sebum production declines with age, often resulting in dry, cracked skin. Other factors that may increase sebum production including hormonal medications, Parkinson’s disease and a variety of conditions that affect the pituitary, adrenal, and reproductive systems in the body. Some factors that decrease sebum production include, certain birth control pills, antiandrogens, malnourishment and the acne medication Isotretinoin as well as conditions that affect hormone-producing glands in the body, e.g. pituitary, adrenal, ovarian etc.
Although an overproduction of sebum is not necessarily harmful and sebum is vital for maintaining healthy skin, too much sebum can lead to oily skin, clogged pores and acne. Fortunately, for most people, there ways to control sebum production without having to use prescription strength. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, there are 10 do’s and don’ts on how to control oil production. Some of their recommendations are: wash your wash regularly, use skincare products that are “oil free” and “noncomedogenic”, use a gentle foaming face wash, wear sunscreen outdoors, use oil-free, water-based makeup, use blotting papers and apply a moisturizer daily.
Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control falls into the latter category, where you control your skin’s oil production by applying a moisturizer. Although many people with oily skin may avoid moisturizer for fear that it will make their skin oilier, applying the correct moisturizer actually has the opposite effect because by keeping the skin hydrated, it reduces the production of sebum. The first ingredient listed in the Mid-Day Shine Control is honey, which according to this article, is a natural humectant, meaning it helps to keep the skin moist and reduces the secretion of sebum. Additionally, honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, that may benefit oily and acne-prone skin. And according to this article, peppermint and rosemary, both of which are in the Mid-Day Shine Control, can also control oiliness on the skin. In other words, Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control has many of the natural ingredients shown to reduce oiliness on the skin.

As a lifelong member of the oily skin club, except for the time I was on Isotretinoin, oil control moisturizers or mattifying moisturizers are a big part of my daytime routine if I plan to wear makeup. My go-to mattifying moisturizer is Murad Oil and Pore Control Mattifier Broad Spectrum SPF 45 and I have been using it for years, so when I received the Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control in my Therabox subscription box, I decided to pass it along to a guest contributor to review and their review is posted below. However, after reading their glowing review of the Mid-Day Shine Control, I will definitely have to try it for myself!
Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control comes in a white tube with a green lid that twists off, and it stands well on its own. However, you have to be careful when squeezing the product, as a lot more comes out than you expect. The Mid-Day Shine Control has a whitish-clear color and is a light liquid cream with a herbal/peppermint smell. I applied a small amount to my face after cleansing, using a toner and moisturizing in the mornings, but before applying mineral powder foundation. My skin used to get a little oily throughout the day, but now I don’t notice it getting oily until later in the evening, if at all. I have also noticed my skin tone and the appearance of acne scars on my chin area have improved somewhat over the past few weeks of using the Mid-Day Shine Control. I didn’t have any big breakouts while using this product, so I am not sure how effective the Shine Control is for acne.
I have never used an oil-control moisturizer before, so I am not sure how well it performs in contrast to other oil-control moisturizers, but it works a lot better than blotting oil off my face! I love the smell of the Mid-Day Shine Control and that it uses all-natural organic ingredients like peppermint, honey, plant wax, witch hazel, and turmeric. Also, I love that it has an SPF of 24, so I don’t have to apply sunscreen to my face as well. But most importantly, I love that it actually works!
I do have a few dislikes about the Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control. I don’t like that it dispenses a lot of product when I squeeze the tube because it ends up all over the inside of the lid. Also, the instructions says you need to apply to clean skin throughout the day, but if I needed to reapply the Shine Control, it means I would have to remove my makeup, put it on, and then reapply my makeup, which seems like a pain. Nevertheless, I think if I used the Shine Control more than once each day it may be a bit drying to my skin anyway.
I would definitely recommend the Z Skin Mid-Day Shine Control because I love it! It contains so much awesomeness in one little tube, preventing excess oil production, helping improve skin tone and scarring, and can also be used as a sunscreen each day. I think anyone who suffers from any of the conditions mentioned above will love this product as well.
